Call for papers

The 67th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Italian Economic Association (SIE) will be held at the University of Cagliari on October 22, 23, and 24, 2026. This is the main annual event in Italy for economists, including participants from abroad, where important international contributions, research findings, and policy analyses are presented.

The Scientific Meeting will begin on Thursday afternoon, October 22, with parallel sessions, which will continue until Saturday morning, October 24. Over the three days of the conference, parallel sessions will alternate with plenary sessions on topics of relevance to the national and international scientific community, presented and discussed by members of the Italian Economic Association.

The program includes scientific contributions on theoretical and applied economics, submitted under the following three formats:

i) Papers proposed independently by individuals (members or non-members);
ii) Thematic contributions within sessions organized by Associations belonging to the Council of Scientific Associations in Economics (Consulta delle Associazioni Scientifiche di Ambito Economico – CASA-Econ);
iii) Thematic contributions within sessions proposed by individual members on topics of interest to the scientific community.

SIE aims to encourage and promote the participation of young scholars in the Scientific Meeting. To this end, PhD students enrolled in Italian doctoral programs may:

i) Present their work within the regular ASM sessions;
ii) Submit their work for the 10th edition of the Young Italian Economist Award, granted to a young economist under the age of 35, by indicating their intention to compete for the award when submitting the paper.

Furthermore, to support the role of doctoral research within the Association’s institutional activities, during the Members’ Assembly the winners of the SIE Award for PhD theses in Economics will be announced. This award, now in its 26th edition, is granted to theses defended or submitted between May 1, 2025, and April 30, 2026.

SUBMISSION OF CONTRIBUTIONS

I. Submission of individual papers
Papers, including an abstract of no more than 200 words, keywords, and the main JEL classification, must be submitted via the Conference Maker system at:
https://editorialexpress.com/conference/SIE_RSA_67/ starting February 10, 2026, and no later than April 30, 2026.

Each participant may submit and present only one paper. Acceptance will be communicated by May 31, 2026. Inclusion in the program is conditional upon payment of the conference registration fee, which must be completed by June 30, 2026.

II. Submission of sessions organized by scientific associations
An association may submit a session proposal consisting of up to four papers. Proposals, prepared using the template_associazioni, must be sent by email to sie@univpm.it between February 10 and April 10, 2026. The subject line should read: “67th ASM – Session Proposal – Name of the Scientific Association”.

Acceptance will be communicated by April 20, 2026. Papers included in accepted sessions must be submitted via Conference Maker by April 30, 2026, referencing the organized session.

III. Submission of sessions organized by individual members
An individual member may submit a session proposal consisting of up to four papers. Proposals, prepared using the template_soci, must be sent by email to sie@univpm.it between February 10 and April 10, 2026. The subject line should read: “67th ASM – Organized Session Proposal – Member’s Last Name and First Name”.

Acceptance will be communicated by April 20, 2026. Papers included in accepted sessions must be submitted via Conference Maker by April 30, 2026, referencing the organized session.

* Confirmation of participation and payment of the registration fee will be made through the SIE website via a link that will be provided in the acceptance email.

PUBLICATION IN THE ITALIAN ECONOMIC JOURNAL

Contributions included in the program of the 67th ASM may be submitted to the journal of the Italian Economic Association, the Italian Economic Journal. Having already undergone a selection process by the scientific community and the Managing Editors of ItEJ, papers included in the program of the 67th Meeting will be sent directly for external peer review.

SELECTION OF CONTRIBUTIONS AND ORGANIZATION

Papers and sessions will be subject to a selection process carried out by the Program Committee, composed of: Alberto RUSSO (Coordinator), Luigi Aldieri, Bianca Biagi, Simona Iammarino, Emanuela Marrocu, Carla Massidda, Dimitri Paolini, Stefano Usai.

The Local Organizing Committee is composed of: Emanuela MARROCU, Stefano USAI (Coordinators), Bianca Biagi, Andrea Caria, Marco Delogu, Vania Licio, Carla Massidda, Dimitri Paolini.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEE 

Registration for the conference requires payment of the participation fee, which includes the membership fee for 2026/27. Registration is mandatory for inclusion of the paper in the program and is the responsibility of the presenter, whether the paper is submitted individually or as part of a session organized by scientific associations or members. The conference fee includes conference materials, coffee breaks, the welcome cocktail, and Friday lunch. Participation in the social dinner must be indicated at the time of registration and paid in addition to the conference fee.

Given the time required to prepare the program, inclusion in the final program of an individual paper or a paper presented within organized sessions is conditional upon payment of the registration fee by June 30, 2026.
