Call for Papers

The 59th Annual Conference (RSA) of the Italian Economic Association (SIE) will be held in Bologna, October 25-27, within a partnership with emilialab and the Regione Emilia-Romagna. 

The topic of the 59th RSA is Globalization and Development: cities, regions, nations. General meetings, specific sessions and other initiatives will focus on this topic. As usual for SIE scientific meetings, parallel sessions or poster sessions will cover theoretical and applied economics contributions on various topics proposed by scholars. 

The 59th RSA will start on Thursday 25th of October 2018 in the morning, with tutorial sessions and introductory courses on data analysis techniques, research methodologies and specific economics topics, held by Italian and foreign scholars.

The following scientific associations will contribute to the programme through organized session co-organized with SIE: the Cultural Economics Association – AEC, the Economic History Association – ASE, the Italian Association of Agricultural and Applied Economics – AIEAA, the Italian Association of Energy Economists – AIEE, the Italian Association of Labour Economics – AIEL, the European Association of Health Economics - AIES, the Italian Association for the History of Economic Thought - AISPE, the Italian Association of Regional Science – AISRE, the Italian Association for the Study of Comparative Economic Systems – AISSEC, the Association for Mathematics Applied to Social and Economic Sciences – AMASES, , the European Association of Comparative Economic Studies – EACES, the Economists for Peace and Security – EPS, the Italian Association of Environmental and Resource Economists – IAERE, the Italian Econometric Association – SidE, the Italian Society of Law and Economics - SIDE, the Italian Society of Public Economics - SIEP, the Italian Society of Industrial Economics and Policy – SIEPI, the Italian Society of Transport Economics and Logistics -  SIET, the Italian Society of Economics Historians - SISE, the Italian Development Economists Association – SITES, and the Italian Association for the History of Political Economy – STOREP.

Sessions co-organized with foreign and national social science associations will also be held, among them on session on the Future of Europe, co-organized with the Association Française de Science Economique (https://www.afse.fr).

The participation of young researchers is encouraged and promoted. PhD candidates, in addition to presenting their contributions in regular RSA sessions, might submit a poster containing a description of their PhD thesis, or part of it, to be presented in a special poster session. In addition to the 17th edition of SIE Award for the best PhD Dissertation in Economics (https://www.siecon.org/it/premi/xvii-edizione-premio-sie),  this year the SIE is organizing the second edition the Young Italian Economist Award (https://www.siecon.org/it/premi/young-italian-economist-award),  to the best paper submitted and presented to the 59th RSA by a young (under-35) economist. Participants who are eligible and wish to compete for this award, which this year includes a money price of €1,500.00, are required to specify this will during the submission process.

 

Paper submission

The RSA accepts three types of contributions: papers, posters and organized sessions.

Papers and posters, including abstracts of no more than 200 words, key words and JEL classification should be submitted through the EDITORIAL EXPRESS – CONFERENCE-MAKER system at http://editorialexpress.com/conference/59RSASIE/ from May 5, 2018 to June 15, 2018.

Each author can send only one manuscript (or poster). Notice of acceptance or rejection will be sent to the author by July 10, 2018.

Organised sessions can be proposed by Scientific Associations or by individual SIE members filling in the template  and submitting it to the Scientific Committee of 59th RSA (sie@univpm.it), with subject “59 RSA–Session proposal” by the June 30th 2018. The proposal should include the session title, a short introduction to the topic, background information on four papers to be presented including authors, affiliation, title and abstract of each paper. Acceptance of sessions will be communicated by July 10, 2018. Full papers must be submitted according to the same procedure of session proposal submission by September 10, 2018.

 

Publication in the Italian Economic Journal

The contributions included in the programme of 59th RSA can be submitted to the official Journal of the Italian Economic Association, the Italian Economic Journal (ItEJ). The manuscripts included in the 59th RSA Programme will be considered as having already passed the desk rejection phase and will be sent directly to the ItEJ referees, shortening the turnaround process appreciably.

 

Selection process

Submissions to the 59th RSA will go through a review process coordinated by the Programme Committee including Alessandro Arrighetti, Luca De Benedictis (chair), Marco Di Tommaso, Beniamino Moro, Roberta Rabellotti, Donato Romano e Giovanni Solinas.

 

Registration fees

The registration fees, which entitle the participants to receive the 59th RSA materials and have access to coffee breaks, the welcome cocktail on Thursday evening, the lunch on Friday and the Social Dinner on Friday evening, amount to:

  • SIE members (regular): 140 Euro (by 10 Sept 2018); 190 Euro (after 10 Sept 2018);
  • SIE members (PhD candidates or post-doc): 60 Euro (by 10 Sept 2018); 90 Euro (after 10 Sept 2018);
  • Non-SIE members: 280 Euro (by 10 Sept 2018) and 330 Euro (after 10 Sept 2018).

Participation in the tutorials and introductory sessions entails an extra (subsidised) cost of 50 Euro.

For accompanying person attending the Social Dinner a fee of 50 Euro per person is applied.

The SIE membership fee is 80 Euro (annual subscription) or 210 Euro (three-year subscription). The SIE yearly membership fee is 20 Euro for PhD students and Post-docs having defended their PhD after December 2014.

The SIE membership fee can be paid on-line along with the 59th RSA registration fee payment.

The registration fee payment is a pre-requisite for the inclusion of paper in the final programme.
