Applications to the the First level International Master in "BIG DATA ANALYTICS FOR POLICY EVALUATIONS" - BDA4PE are open.

The aim of the program is to respond to the increasing demand from Institutions and businesses for professional profiles skilled in policy evaluation and strategic decision making. To this aim the Master focuses on the most modern Big Data and technologies and on the data modelling opportunities offered by Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. These new data science tools, paired with more traditional statistical methodologies, offer a unique perspective to support decision making in the context of public policy evaluation but also attentive to highest-level strategic decisions in the corporate field.

The course is organized by the Department of Economics and Statistics "Cognetti de Martiis" of the University of Turin in collaboration with Metro-Polis and Corep, and builds upon a consolidated collaborative network coming from national and international research centres and institutions: ILO International Labour Office; OECD Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development; French Institute of Research for Sustainable Development (IRD), LEDa-DIAL, Paris; Marche Polytechnic University; Laboratorio Revelli - Centre for Employment Studies.

The Master in Big Data Analytics for Policy Evaluations builds on the experience and teaching staff of the MALED (Master in Applied Labour Economics for Development), a Master program jointly organized by University of Turin and ITC-ILO that prepared students and professionals to become experts in designing, analysing and evaluating policies.
After ten years of activity, we deeply renewed the MALED and transformed it into the new BDA4PE, widening its scope both in the topics and in the methodologies covered. Teaching innovations include a fully structured and assisted on-line preliminary learning phase, an enhanced importance of laboratory activities in presence, the possibility of a visiting period at an Italian or European institution to write the final research work.
The aim is to train professionals capable of carrying out advanced data analysis and policy evaluation functions, mastering the main methodologies for predictive- and causal analysis, for complex systems modelling, and for the monitoring of economic systems and markets through indicators derived from statistical surveys and Big Data sources.

During the course students will learn to:
- Analyze economic data using traditional econometric models and ML/AI tools.
- Evaluate public policies and corporate strategies.
- Develop simulation models for ex-ante evaluations of the effect of interventions on economic systems.
- Provide expert advice to policy makers relying on a solid understanding of both institutional and political contexts.
- Provide private businesses' management with quantitative evidence to support strategic decisions.

Combining the theoretical presentation with laboratory activities students will also acquire the necessary programming skills with the main open source statistical and data management softwares.

The course is divided into 9 didactic modules distributed over three subject areas:

1. Data, databases and coding
2. Economic Foundations
3. Statistics and Econometrics

The course working language is English.
